ABOUT VAVRA SORGHUM FARM

Vavra Sorghum Farm was created to carry on the Vavra Family tradition of sweet sorghum syrup making.

My great grandfather started this tradition over 80 years ago... followed by my grandparents and then my father, Jerome Vavra, in 1967, ( the year I was born). This tradition carried on for many years until around 1999.

After 20 years, in 2019, KJ and Patty Vavra decided to carry on the tradition again for the next generation of family and friends!

Every year, in late September / early October, we hold a 4-day event where we harvest the sweet sorghum cane by hand and run it through a civil war era sorghum press. Then we cook the juice into a sweet, rich syrup that we enjoy with our breakfast each morning!
